The USA Today is running an article entitled, "Experts say Google
will be No. 1 in Visitors in '07." The article presents the numbers to
back-up its claim.
The article reports that Danny Sullivan, editor of the Search Engine
Land Blog, said, "Google's critics say the company is a one-trick
pony, and is focused too much on just search. This just shows how
powerful search is."
Is Google the largest ad agency in the world? After all, this is how
the company makes its money.

Discussion-Starters for Younger Children
- Ask your child(ren) if they've ever searched for something.
How does it feel when they can't find what they are looking
for?
- Look through a newspaper or magazine with your child(ren).
Ask them what ad they like the most. Why? (You might also
ask which product they'd like to have the most.)
- Search for something, such as a free on-line kids'g game,
with your children, using Google.
- Google was an invention created by two Stanford doctoral
students. If your child(ren) could create any new invention
what would they create? Why?
Discussion-Starters for Older Children
- Vocabulary Terms to Discuss: Defied; Revenue; Acquire;
and, "in the shadows of."
- Tell your child(ren) to imagine that Google charged a small
fee to run searches. Would people pay this fee? Why/why
not? Based on this question, can we learn anything about the
value of information on the Internet? What? How can we
learn this?
- Tell your child(ren) to imagine taht the founders of Google
asked them for advice as to how to improve the search
engine. What would they advise? Why?
- Google does not place any ads on its home page, a page that
some say is the most valuable page on the Internet. Why do
your child(ren) think this is the case? Is this smart?
Why/why not?
