Workshops Offered by Pass-Ed:

Effective Use of Internet Resources for Educators

Andrew Pass Educational Services, LLC, (Pass-Ed) an independent educational services firm specializes in professional development, curriculum development and program evaluation. We have worked with educational organizations across the United States. The firm is very excited to expand our professional development program by offering a workshop to help educators effectively use Internet resources to support teaching and learning in their own classrooms. Pass-Ed would welcome the opportunity to partner with your institution to bring this workshop to your community.

Why Is This Workshop Needed?

Educators often become frustrated as they try to incorporate on-line resources into their teaching, saying:
bullet “I don’t have enough computers.”
bullet “How can I use this resource?”
bullet “If I’m putting this into the lesson, what should I take out? I’ve only got forty minutes.”
bullet “This idea is great, but it’s not connected to the benchmark.”

Objectives of This Workshop

This workshop provides educators with the resources to answer the above questions as well as help others answer them. Educators leave this workshop having been exposed to fifty on-line resources, but more importantly possessing the capacity to use these resources and others to support their teaching.

Structure of This Workshop

In order to facilitate the fulfillment of the above objectives the workshop will have four components:

  1. Participants will be exposed to an array of websites, as presented by our facilitator.
  2. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with these websites. As many of the websites include online activities, participants will have the opportunity to engage with these activities.
  3. In order to consider how to best utilize these websites in teaching and learning processes, participants will consider seven essential questions:
bulletWhat do you like about the site? (Be specific, it will force you to think)
    bulletWhy do you like this?
bulletWhat standard, benchmark or Grade Level Content Expectation would using this strategy in your classroom allow you to achieve?
bulletHow could you incorporate this idea into teaching and learning within your own classroom? (List as many ways as possible)
bulletHow could you incorporate this idea without the use of computers?
bulletWhat challenges might you encounter as you try and incorporate this idea?
bulletReflect afterwards!! What went well about using this idea? What did not go so well? Why?
  4. Participants will interact with one another as they collaboratively discuss the use of these websites in their own classrooms.

Hours and Place of This Workshop

This workshop can be structured as a half-day or full-day event. Ideally, we will need to have enough computers with internet access for each participant’s use. We would also like access to an LCD computer projector.
