The best classroom dialogue occurs when students interact
with one another, asking each other probing and thought
provoking questions.  Sometimes, however, students are shy,
inhibited from participating in class discussions.  Other times,
so many students want to participate that it’s very difficult to
give every student an opportunity to speak within the
constraints of a class period.  If used effectively, online
discussion minimizes these challenges.
