Changes at the DOE

For those of you who haven't seen yet, David Warlick, a blogger who I admire a great deal, was duped by Chris Lehmann. Chris wrote an article entitled, "Sweeping Changes in NCLB and DOE." He explained that Margraret Spellings, "the queen of all testing," was being replaced by Doug Christensen, Nebraska Commissioner of Education, an early advocate of porfolio assessment Chris's article was written on Aprl 1, 2007.

Questions for Discussion:

1. What is it about trickery that makes it fun and funny at the same time?
2. What other adjectives can you think of to describe trickery?
3. What can we learn from the substance of the trick?
4. Are there certain times when it is appropriate to trick and certain times when it is inappropriate to trick? How does one recognize the different times.

P.S. I received a very interesting letter yesterday from Senator Ted Kennedy's office. Senator Kennedy asked me to compile a list of four bloggers who could serve as a sort of "ad hoc" educational advisory group to offer opinions and suggestions during the reauthorization process of NCLB. If you'd like to be considered for this group please contact me by leaving a comment under this blog post.

Andrew, I'm guessing that you're not serious given the topic of this post, but just in case... know that I'm always interested in 1) doing another edublogger conference call with you, and 2) representing the leadership perspective to anyone who will listen. Thanks!

Hi Scott, You are correct in that I'm not serious. (One of my blogging friends took me seriously and wrote me privately. I suggested he take a look at the rest of the posting.) But, I too would welcome the opportunity to have another edublogger conference call? Were you, or anybody else, contacted by Gene Sperling's assistant, Victoria Suarez-Polomo, about the Global Campaign for Education Week, April 23rd - 29th? (Information is here: http://www.campaignforeducationusa.org/)
