A World-Wide Carnival (Many Links)
Welcome to the 87th edition of The Carnival of Education. Before you read this carnival. Take a guess - what states do you think submitted the most entries? Which states did not submit any entries? What can we do to encourage educators to blog around the world?
And now on to the Midway...
-Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.-
This Week in Education merits top billing in this week's Carnival. They are the only blog to submit an entry that is written by people from two different states, (ok, one state and one capital) as far as I can tell. They submit, Facebook Hates NCLB. They are not alone.

Last week's host, The Mediansib submitted Children Who Have Never Heard of 9/11: Ignorance or Innocence As hard as I looked I couldnt' find where the Mediansib lives. My guesses: Alaska, Tennessee, or Georgia, since that's what she's got listed in her profile. If she lives in one of these states, she'd be their own blogger who submitted. She submitted a second entry entitled, Children's T-shirt Slogans - A Microcosm of School Culture?
-Texas- (Everything in Texas is Big)
(The only state in the Union that has the right to split itself into four, according to the rules by which it was incorporated into the U.S.)

Dave, from Friends of Dave, submits Lousy K-12 Schools Create Opportunities for Community Colleges.
-Michigan- State Song: Michigan, My Michigan
Spunky explains that she lives in:
...A house that was too small the day we bought it.
...A suburb of Detroit
...The United States
...A suburb of the United Nations.
In her submission, There's a Chill in the Air, she writes: In her recent, op/ed Margaret Spellings talked about partnering with the states to develop a "voluntary" system of accountability at the university level. This is nothing but a power grab and the continuation of the process of federalizing our educational system from preschool - 16. (P-16).
I humbly summit an entry entitled Bush v. Bush (A Think).
-Illinois- The Land of Lincoln
Let's Play Math presents, Pre-Algebra Problem Solving: The Tools.
If I wasn't born in Illinois, I might not have permitted this late entry into the carnival. (But I let every entry in, so this one's here too. Especially since it's controversial.) Alexander Russo submited Mixed Feelings about Doners Choose. Read it, it's interesting.
-Ohio- Soybeans are a large part of their economy (Can you tell that I live in Michigan by my choice here?)
Think the chances are slim for a high school sophomore with a 0.9 GPA to make it to college? If Scott Elliott told you he was 344 pounds and an NFL prospect, would that change your prediction. Read Scott Elliott: Football and the magical GPA: An academic disgrace
Thespis Journal passes along An Educational Journey of Boundless Potential.

Hi Andrew,
We submitted a post, but then changed the title. Bad blog practice! Anyway, here is our entry.

I can't believe I don't have my state listed on my blog. I'm a Tennessean! Originally from Georgia, though. Great carnival. Thanks for including me.
Thanks for the carnival! There's always such a wealth of interesting things to read.
This was a great idea, glad you were amused by my Facebook entry. P.S. Alexander must not have informed you of his move to NYC. And maybe just for fun I will write a post about states right's for DC since you mentioned the disparity.
Thanks for including me. Enjoyed it (especially the EVERYTHING IN TEXAS IS BIG comment!) ;)
Although... I am currently in Arkansas (shhhh!! don't tell anyone. I'm working on getting back across the border...)
